TOUR 4D - Riding, Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir
The tour starts at our farm Vellir. We ride for 1.5-2 hours in the charming countryside, enjoying the view of volcanic mountains and wide meadows. Excellent riding trails give a good opportunity to experience the special gait of the Icelandic horse “tölt”. After the riding we have lunch at Hotel Eldhestar. The tour bus will then take you on a day trip to see the famous Geysir geothermal area, the “golden waterfall” Gullfoss and Thingvellir National Park. The geothermal area at Geysir boasts the spouting hot spring Strokkur, the most active geyser in Iceland. At Gullfoss you can stand next to the amazing waterfall, watching enormous quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge. You also spend time encountering the historical site and stunning nature at Thingvellir National Park, an area of historical and geological significance.
If you want to sample a bit of the real Iceland, Eld Hestar is a great choice. We booked only the one-hour tour for three adults and a five-year-old but had a full experience. The guide led our five-year-old on his horse, but he had the reins and the feeling of actually riding, rather than just sitting on the horse. The guides gave everyone a good orientation to the breed, how they are trained to respond and then sorted us as to experience and matched us with the right horse. We took a path that featured quite a few birds, streams and a feel for the landscape. They showed how to ask the horse to do the tolt gait and we did quite a bit of it, which was fun for everyone. If I were to return, I would definitely consider a full-day or even multi-day trip with this company. Thanks for a great experience for all in our group.
