The seismic unrest on the Reykjanes peninsula may lead to a volcanic eruption, just like in March 2021, August 2022, and in July 2023, but the current location of a possible eruption is threatening the town of Grindavík due to the magma intrusion partly laying under the town. The priority is, of course, to keep everyone safe! Therefore, all inhabitants have been evacuated from the area. Magma movement beneath the town led to formation of sinkholes and many houses have been irreparably damaged. All we can do is wait and see how the situation develops and hope that the eruption will not happen this time. We cannot describe in words how terribly sorry we feel for all the people of Grindavík who had to leave everything behind and fear the worst. More information can be found on Visit Iceland.
We have to stay positive and keep on going despite the tense situation on the Reykjanes peninsula. Slowly, we have started to put up decoration at the hotel and look forward to the biggest holiday in Iceland – Christmas!
