First Summer Day in Iceland!

We are excited to share that today, on April 24th, Iceland is celebrating its First Day of Summer – Sumardagurinn fyrsti in Icelandic. This holiday falls on the first Thursday after April 18th and marks the beginning of the summer season in the old Norse calendar. Although the weather might still act up a little, this holiday marks the official start of summer in Iceland, according to the old Icelandic calendar. It is a day of celebration as we welcome the long days and the promise of warmer weather ahead!

The landscape is now between winter and spring. There is still some snow on the mountains that surround us, but the first green plants are starting to appear. It is a beautiful time, as nature slowly wakes up after the cold winter.

And of course, we should not forget that the Northern Lights season is coming to an end. If you haven’t had the chance to witness them yet, now is the time to catch them before the summer skies take over. The picture below was taken by one of our guests last week. Can you spot the cloud on the left? It looks a bit like a horse to us, but maybe we are just seeing horses everywhere!

If you want to join us and see horses everywhere – just like we do, it is time to book such experience for this summer. Whether you are seeking a grand adventure to the highlands of Iceland or a more relaxed ride, we have something for everyone.

Do not forget that Tour 19 – Sprengisandur may be the very last one operated by Eldhestar, as due to some changes, we may not be offering it next year. If you have ever dreamed of riding this historic route with a herd of horses, now is the time to make it happen.

We look forward to welcoming you soon to Eldhestar for an unforgettable experience no matter which one you choose to take part in!

If you have any questions about our tours or hotel, please do not hesitate to email us – we are always happy to help.
